Keeping Watch

Artist Statement
Keeping Watch honors the enduring strength of motherhood. Beneath a moonlit sky, a solitary figure stands, holding a candle and watching over a small boat disappearing toward the horizon. With wings outstreached, she is prepared to be at her childs side at an instant if needed. The boat represents a little one embarking on life’s journey, while the mother remains a constant presence - offering love, hope and silent protection, even from afar.
Motherhood is not only found in moments of holding on, but also in the courage to let go. The textured layers, luminous moonlight, and sweeping emerald gown reflect the depth and unwavering devotion that continue long after a child has charted their own course.
“A mother’s greatest strength is not keeping her child from the journey, but keeping watch with a heart full of love as they find their own way.”
Inspiration
As a child grows, every mother faces the bittersweet reality of letting go. Motherhood is not about holding on forever, but about giving a child the strength, faith, and freedome to find their own way.
This painting was inspired by the profound truth that family must stand like an ancient tree - deeply rooted, steady, and enduring - providing a foundation of love and stability while allowing her child to grow beyond her reach.
The textured emerald gown flows downward like the roots of a living tree. She stands grounded in hope, love and prayer, trusting the foundation she has given her child will endure. Her deep peace is knowing that as she lets go, her child is guided by faith.
