The Key to My Wings

Artist Statement

The Key to My Wings explores the journey of discovering the freedom we seek already exists within us.

The gilded frames hold fragments of memory, family, tradition, beauty, and the pieces of a life that have been carried forward. They represent things inherited—both the treasures and the expectations that shape character and life choices.

At the center, a broken mirror reflects a fragmented sense of identity. Emerging through that fractured surface is a paintbrush. Moore explaines, “It represents my voice as an artist and the realization that I can use my creativity not simply to document my life, but to redefine it. Within the fragments lies a key—a symbol of choice, self-discovery, and the understanding that I am the one who holds the ability to unlock my own future.”

Above the layers of memory and inheritance, white wings rise outward, representing freedom and transformation. Honoring the past without allowing it to determine the future. Find the key to peace, joy and personal identity. Then you are free.

“What is within us was never meant to be confined.”

Inspiration

The work was inspired by understanding that family, memory, and history can be both beautiful and binding. “The ornate wood frames hung in my parent’s home, and I wanted to physically layer preserved objects, tangled threads, flowers, and fragments representing everything I carry, the memories. The fractured mirror represents all the many stages of life, all that I am”.

The mirror reflects the many pieces and life experiences, but it is important to realize the shards of history makes us whole. I wanted something to come through it. Art is the instrument of transformation for so many, be it music, painting, or sculpture. —the thing that allowed me to move beyond simply seeing the pieces of my past and begin creating something new from them.

And the key reflects an important truth:

Everyone has the key to unlock the door to their own future, their own joy. When you find it, you break the boundaries and become your own person. That is freedom.
